Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 4, 2026

1. Introduction

My Money My Budget (“we”, “us”, or “our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use our family budgeting service.

2. Information We Collect

We collect the following personal information:

  • Name — to personalize your account and family budget.
  • Email address — to create your account, send confirmations, and communicate about your subscription.
  • Financial account data (via Plaid) — if you choose to connect a bank, credit card, or other financial account, we use Plaid Inc. to securely retrieve account metadata (institution name, account name, type, and masked account number), balances, and transaction history. We never see or store your bank login credentials; you enter them directly with Plaid.

We do not collect credit card information directly. Payment processing is handled securely by our payment provider.

2a. Plaid and Financial Data

Connecting a financial institution is entirely optional and requires your explicit consent through Plaid's secure Link flow. When you connect an account:

  • What is collected: account metadata, current and available balances, and transaction history (date, amount, merchant, category).
  • How it is used: solely to display your accounts, sync transactions into your family budget, categorize spending, and calculate insights. We do not sell or share this data for marketing.
  • How it is stored: encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest in our database. Plaid access tokens are stored server-side and never exposed to the browser. Access is restricted by row-level security so only you and the family members you invite can see your data.
  • Plaid's own handling: Plaid's use of your data is governed by the Plaid End User Privacy Policy at plaid.com/legal.
  • How to disconnect and delete: you can disconnect any institution at any time from Settings → Connected accounts. Disconnecting revokes the Plaid access token, stops future syncing, and removes the connection from our systems. To delete all imported transactions and account data, contact us at info@mymoneymybudget.com or delete your account from Settings, which removes all personal and financial data associated with your family within a reasonable timeframe.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your personal information to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the My Money My Budget service.
  • Authenticate you and keep your account secure.
  • Send service-related emails (account confirmations, billing receipts, important updates).
  • Respond to your support requests.

4. Information Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with advertisers or third parties for marketing purposes. We only share data with trusted service providers who help us operate the service (such as our hosting and payment processing partners), and only to the extent necessary for them to perform their services.

5. Data Security

We use industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit and at rest. Access to your budget is restricted to you and the family members you explicitly invite.

6. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal data within a reasonable timeframe, except where retention is required by law.

7. Your Rights

You may access, update, or delete your personal information at any time through your account settings. You may also contact us to request a copy of your data or to ask questions about how we handle your information.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email or through the service. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
